Gambia College Art Lecturer Set To Unveil Art Exhibition

Art Lecturer at the Art Department, School of Education, Gambia College is set to unveil a daylong art exhibition scheduled for 29th February 2024 to be held at the college premises.

This scheduled art exhibition in the college is the first of its kind to be staged by an Art Lecturer of the college to showcase the wealth of talents and skills of students at the Art Department of the college and as well to elevate skill development among youths and students of other schools.

More so, the exhibition which is open for everyone to participate will showcase the diversity of students’ work and provide a platform for them to tell their own stories through creativity, as the event will be used to display various art products for sale and all these artworks are products of the students while other students from different areas of study will join in the preparations and making of the art product to make the day remarkable.

Meanwhile, there are many activities planned for people to enjoy at the exhibition including poetry, cultural performances, drama among other entertainment, speeches from different speakers, photography, painting etcetera.

Commenting on the upcoming art exhibition, Ramatoulie Sanyang, the organizer disclosed that the exhibition which will start at 10:00 am onward is meant to create a platform for students to express themselves, showcase their talents, and develop more skills and creativity.

“We also aimed to raise funds at the end and use the proceeds to develop an art gallery for keeping and displaying our best practical works. So we want everyone to participate to help us so we can have a remarkable art gallery for our students in the Arts Department,” she added.

She continued, “It is part of the efforts to promote education and develop skills amongst the youth and especially art and life skills students in the country. So, I deemed it necessary to have a developed space to preserve the practical works of students. This will help a lot especially the new intakes and art students in schools. Because it will also help others to visit and learn what they have been seeing. It will also be a useful art gallery for students sitting their external examinations.”

The exhibitors, she disclosed, are going to be purely students of the college while expecting as guests of honors the Governing Council of The Gambia College, Mayors of KMC and Banjul, Chairman of BAC, some NAMs, Ministries including art and culture institutions.

Also expected at the one-day exhibition are representatives of some international organizations, school principals with their art teachers, and two students representing each school across the country.
