GIA, GCAA Applauded For Supporting Gambian Artists’ Mobility

By Yunus Saliu

Gambia International Airlines (GIA) and Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) have been commended for their strong support in facilitating the mobility of Gambian artists in pursuit of their artistic profession and engagements.

According to a close source, recently, the Gambia International Airlines facilitated a return air ticket – to and from Banjul, Gambia to Lusaka, Zambia for Mr. Jaliba Kuyateh, the King of Kora to represent The Gambia, Smiling Coast of Africa, at a big international art and culture fair organized under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema.

Also, not long ago, the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) supported Gambian Fashion Designers, and Gambia Writers, to attend various international engagements in different parts of Africa.

Speaking to this medium, a senior official at the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) said such support is critical and very important because The Gambia is a signatory to the 2005 UNESCO Convention which has a whole chapter on artists’ mobility – which artist will be able to travel around the world to showcase the best of Gambian artists and culture.

“So, the support of the GIA and GCAA is a very fundamental step in the right direction as far as helping The Gambia fulfill its organization to the UNESCO 2005 Convention and promoting cultural diversity is concerned.
