Educational Tourism Tour For Diplomats in Destination Gambia

Intensifying efforts in marketing and promoting domestic tourism in Destination Gambia, the Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard) is conducting a series of tours for different stakeholders, and private and public institutions through its bimonthly Educational Tourism package.

The latest to be exposed to different tourism products and activities in the Tourism Development Areas (TDA) in The Gambia are the Diplomats, which include the new British High Commissioner to The Gambia – Harriet King, Olayinka Temidayo Balogun – Senior Counsellor at the High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ebrima Jobe – Protocol Officer at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ida Bah – Advocacy and Fundraising Officer at National Sports Council and among others.

On this unique and exciting two-day educational tour package, the Diplomats visited different places of attraction. They participated in different activities like birdwatching via boat trip at the popular Kotu Conservation Reserve, Monkey Park, the National Museum, and Arch 22 in Banjul.

The tour’s highlights were a boat trip from the Denton Bridge to Lamin Lodge, the honey factory at Nyambai, a visit to Brikama Craft Market, and later to the palm wine tapper’s farm.

Mamou Suwaneh, Senior Officier Marketing Communication – GTBoard throughout the conduct of the educational tour activities took his time to educate the guests about the creek, the potential of the River Gambia for exploration, first-hand information about the origin of tourism in Destination Gambia, the acceptance and impacts of tourism in the country as far as responsible tourism is concerned.

Like other visited places, the vendors at the Brikama Craft Market were excited to have the British High Commissioner in their midst, they entertained her and others to fanfare in the market known as mother to all other craftmarkets in Destination Gambia.
